E3 2012 – Black Ops II Behind-the-Scenes Video, MP and Zombies Discussed

“The multiplayer community is everything to us. We have such an avid fan base,” says Treyarch in a brand new behind-the-scenes video for Black Ops II.

In this video, the folks over at Treyarch go through all three components of the game with main emphasis on the campaign, as you know the studio is saving zombies and multiplayer for last.

David Vonderhaar stated that the multiplayer mode’s new “create a class is sweet” because it now enables you to “choose what’s the most important things to you, and forget about  the things that are not important.” He went on to note, “This will open up doors for playstyles you have not seen. It’s going to be fantastic.”

In terms of zombies, Treyarch referenced one map to be “bigger than any map [they] have ever done. It’s about just making it more open for the player, more choices, things to do. It’s going to be exciting,” concluded the brief zombies segment.

The multiplayer and zombie discussion starts at 2:53, but we encourage you to watch the whole

Black Ops 2 Zombies confirmed with official picture, offering a lot more.

by Admin

Zombies, one of the great things about all COD games developed by Treyarch, and Black Ops 2 is no exception! This time however, Zombies is going to be bigger than ever before.

It was confirmed in an interview: Mark Lamia didn’t want to beat around the undead bush: “I’m not going to hide it from you – it’s a Treyarch game, we’re making Zombies. It’s a huge world, running inside the multiplayer mode. There are new game modes; it’s bigger and better.”

Running inside the multiplayer engine will mean the number of players and Zombies in any one game can be greatly increased, allowing for some epic zombie battles.

The official picture below reminds us of the “Call of the Dead” mission from a previous Black Ops map pack. Call of the Dead was great because it created a story and a whole atmosphere in a single zombie level rather than you just standing around shooting folk.

Speculation has been running around that Black Ops 2 Zombies will feature a full on campaign mode, similar to the single player experience but cooperative and against Zombies! Woop!

Zombies first appeared in Treyarch’s original big hit Call of Duty: World at War. Although there was only one map to play (“Nacht der Untoten”) it was still brilliant and fan reception to it was fantastic, everyone was comparing scores to how many waves they could survive and the tactics they used. Treyarch picked up on the great reception to the new mode and released three extra maps for it throughout the World at War DLC season (Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese).

In the first Black Ops, the zombies game mode was expanded even further, lots of new maps and lots of new features. As soon as you finished the campaign you get thrown into a Zombie game solo! The success of the Zombie game mode is really told though by how many extra maps were released throughout the Black Ops DLC season when 8, yes thats right 8 extra Zombie maps were added to the game! (Granted 4 of them were direct pulls from World at War) it still made for fantastic gaming and we cannot wait to see how they are going to expand Zombies even further in Black Ops 2.

Update:

From an interview with Lamia over at the Official PlayStation Magazine he also revealed the following about Zombies in Black Ops 2.

“Our zombies fans want more zombies,” he revealed somewhat unsurprisingly. Hang on though, he’s going somewhere with this. “They literally want more zombies and they want more ways to play” (see). That means Black Ops 2 will be expanding on what the previous games have done before with the undead.

“They want bigger maps” says Lamia. “They want even more interesting things to do inside these levels. So we are crafting new worlds, creating new game modes and bigger worlds.” Much of what this new zombies will bring is partly due to an undead tech upgrade. “We’ve actually put [zombies] inside of our multiplayer engine and it’s capable of doing twice as many zombies, twice as many co-op players.”

“There are actually new modes,” says Lamia. “There’s classic mode that you guys are used to but there are going to be new modes. [Twice as many co-op players] introduces some interesting new gameplay modes. Perhaps you can think of some team game modes where there might be fun to be had?”

Take a look at what we should be expecing in Black Ops 2:

-Perks- (Only new and modified!) (Perk slot not yet defined!)

1. Spy – Appear as a friend on the map. (Disadvantage is, you’re always spotted even without a UAV, and when shooting, you turn red on the map)

b. Pro – Detect enemy spies. They will still always be spotted on the radar.

c. Elite – If Pilot is active, your airship will be marked as an ally.

2. Escape Artist – When going prone, you feign death (You cannot shoot during)

b. Pro – When approaching death, the enemies crosshairs will turn to white, and your name will dissapear.

c. Elite – if Diver is active – You realistically fall into your feign death instead of diving.

3. Audiophile – Players with silenced weapons will show on your radar if they are shooting at you or close around you.

b. Pro – Footsteps are louder

c. Elite – If bladesman is active – kniving will show up on the radar

4. Defuser – Throw all equipment but cookable grenades up to 2x farther – a hollow circle will show up around your crosshairs, and the circle will fill in 3 seconds. When the circle is full, it will throw 2x farther, when it is empty, it will throw 1x as far.

b. Pro – Be able to take semtex off of players and throw them elsewhere, and be able to pick up any enemy equipment and use it as your own.

c. Elite – if quickdraw is active – the circle will fill in 1.5 seconds.

5. Juggernaut – Regenerate health faster while moving

b. Pro – Regenerate health faster while crouched

c. Elite – If scavenger is active – you are able to drop ammo packs for your team.

6. Diver – You can dive into cover (A.K.A. Dolphin Dive) – and while diving you can still shoot, however when you land it takes awhile to regain focus.

b. Pro – You crawl 2x faster

c. Elite – With Extreme conditioning active – You can sprint while crawling to crawl faster (3x) instead of getting up.

b. Pro – Your Advnaced UAVS will disable the enemies UAV

c. Elite – If defuser is active, your sentries cannot be taken down instantly.

9. Bladesman – You have 2 knives in each hand instead of just one in one hand. (This essentially makes knives kill twice as fast.)

b. Pro – You have a chance of dodging the incoming players knife.

c. Elite – If assasin is active – kniving will be completely silent and not show on the killfeed, unless countered by audiophile elite.

10. Conciousness – While standing, you are just as accurate as when you are prone

c. Elite – if steady aim is active – when hip-firing, your bullets have 10% more damage with each person they go through.

-NEW!!-

–Knife Melee Slot–

1. Default Knife – takes 2 swipes to kill, you need to put it away, and take it back out like usual.

2. Tactical knife – takes 4 swipes to kill, as long as you are pushing the melee button however, it will keep knifing

3. Tactical hammer – takes longer to get out, takes 4 swipes to kill, you need to put it away and take it back out like usual, but against riot shields and machines it takes only 1 swipe to destroy.

4. Throwing knifes – Start with 4, fast to get out, fairly accurate, but takes 2 to kill and is ranged

A huge amount of information there, abosorb it all if you can. Some of the ones we particularly interested in are the following:

  • “Your controllable flying killstreaks will last until they are shot down.” This is going to make anti-air weapons a necessity for all teams in the game otherwise your team will just get dominated completely. If you don’t have a team who’s willing to shoot it down then you are pretty much done for!
  • “You realistically fall into your feign death instead of diving.” Get ready to start spraying all those corpses people! The Spy’s Dead Ringer from Team Fortress 2 comes to mind here! It will be an interesting asset to the game!
  • “Be able to shoot while sprinting, even at the deduction of accuracy.”. This one sounds like great fun, charging at the enemies with an LMG. The phrase “Spray & Pray” will be more than appropriate.
  • Knifing enemies will no longer be instant death! The smallest number of hits the enemy must take before dying will be two, this is gonna result in some nail biting close quarter combat situations!
